Oaks (Red, White, Black)
Ahh…the mighty Oak. What more can be said about this stately tree that hasn’t been said already? Growing to grand sizes while providing dappled shade, sturdy lumber and huge crops of acorns, Oaks have looked over us for eons. There is an Oak species for every part of the temperate world. Their acorns have provided a near perfect animal feed through the years, as well as an overlooked flour that has become one of our favorite cookie, pie crust and pancake flours. Great tree to plant in any landscape. Whether you want shade, nuts, lumber or to attract deer and other game to your property, the Oak will provide! We select the biggest acorns from the biggest, healthiest trees we've come across to select for superior genetics. Pollination shouldn’t be an issue as there are likely wild Oaks already present in your area. If not, then two trees are required for pollination
White Oak - Lumber is stronger and more resistant to rot. We prefer these acorns for flour because the bitter skins come off more easily than Reds. Massive shade tree once mature.
Red Oak - Huge, straight grained tree adaptable to many different conditions, especially rocky, dry hills. Acorns are MASSIVE and also great for flour.
Black Oak - Very similar in appearance to Red Oak but acorns are much smaller, making them perfect for a turkey pasture. Tree size is a bit smaller as well but still impressive.
