Sedum (Autumn Joy)
A favorite perennial in the garden for many reasons. The plant is amazingly drought tolerant and will grow even in poor, sandy soils low in nutrients. Sedums are rarely bothered by insect pests, and are completely resistant to rabbit, deer and vole pressure. Autumn Joy blooms late in the season, offering a big nectar flow before the cold comes. It makes a beautiful border and the flower heads look great in cut flower bouquets. They are also very hardy, tolerating temperatures as low as -40 degrees and as high as 105. Even though our focus is on edible plants, I always make some space for this great plant!
