Comfrey (Bocking 14)
The darling of holistic orcharding! Comfrey brings so many benefits into the orchard. The large, soft leaves shade out grasses like a living mulch and create a rich zone of loamy soil around themselves. When chopped and dropped they rot down quickly to feed the soil and deposit the minerals that their DEEP root systems brought up from the earth. A haven for bumblebees. The leaves contain allantoin which has incredible wound-healing properties. I have used it to great effect to heal bad wounds, both on myself and livestock. Great chicken feed as well, though it is NOT an edible green for humans! Use only externally as a poultice or mixed into creams and salves. This strain (bocking 14) doesn’t set viable seed so it won’t spread where you don’t want it to. The quintessential guild plant!
Zones 3-9
Ships as a bag of root fragments ready to plant
