Crabapple
One of the highlights of spring is the crabapple bloom. Clouds of pink and white flowers erupt on the branches of a tough, long lived tree. Fruit follows the blossoms, ripening to varying shades of red and orange. Once soft in late fall-early winter the fruit has the taste and consistency of spiced applesauce. They’re small but we adore the intense fruity flavor and late harvest! Great supplemental chicken/wildlife feed. A very good rootstock to graft on to and a perfect tree for hunters who want to plant out a food plot for deer, turkeys, grouse and other game. Rugged and adaptable to many types of soil. We have them growing next to our dry gravel driveway AND in our wet, rich clay bottom-lands and they do equally well. Quite resistant to most common apple diseases! At least two trees are required for pollination
