Mulberry

$10.00

Perhaps the most abundantly fruiting tree around, mulberries will deliver consistently good crops every single year. Late flowering so they miss late frosts. A relative of the fig, they have a rich vinous flavor fresh and cook down into an exquisite jam. Any that you don’t harvest (and there always will be from a mature tree!) the local bird community will be all over it for weeks on end. We’ll sit in front of our biggest tree and enjoy the bird show throughout early summer. Great supplemental chicken feed, plant one in their run! Insects and diseases never seem to bother the rugged mulberry. Rot resistant lumber with a beautiful orange color. Not picky about soil at all, as long as it isn’t waterlogged. Very fast growing tree with unique foliage. Female trees are self-fertile and require no other pollination, but males only produce pollen, no fruit. Therefore it is wise to plant multiple trees in case one of them is male.
